Indiana Republican Who Recently ‘Came Out’ Pushes Back Against Death Threats, Calls to Resign

A councilman from Indiana, who was born as a Caucasian male and publicly disclosed that he identifies as a lesbian woman of color, has refused to resign despite receiving death threats.

Ryan Webb, a councilman from Delaware County, has declared that he identifies as a Native American due to his alleged Cherokee ancestry on both sides of his family. He has also announced that he identifies as a woman and a lesbian, despite being married to a woman.

In a viral social media post, Webb claimed he is “honored to shatter this glass ceiling,” and will be a “vocal partner for the LGBTQIAPC+++ community.”

There are conservative commentators who view Webb’s statement as a wisecrack. However, Webb has stated that his intention is to hold a “mirror to the political left” to highlight the inconsistencies in gender, and he remains wedded to his wife, Brandy Webb, who is contesting for a seat on the Muncie City Council. Webb has also declared that he will continue to use his current pronouns (“he/him”) and name.

During an interview with Fox News on Monday, Webb expressed his pride in acknowledging his Native American ancestors. When asked by host Jesse Watters if he had a higher percentage of Cherokee ancestry than Senator Elizabeth Warren, a public official who has also claimed Native American heritage, Webb did not provide a direct response.

“I don’t profess to know the history of Ms. Warren,” Webb said during an appearance on “Jesse Watters Primetime.” “But I think it’s pretty it’s pretty consistent. I have Cherokee on both sides of my family, so I think it’s enough to self-identify as a woman of color.”

According to a report by The Washington Post, Warren identified herself as Native American in a Texas bar application. She faced accusations of engaging in a “diversity sham” from her then-election opponent, Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., when it was revealed that she had listed herself as Native American in a directory for law professors.

In the same interview, Watters inquired about the backlash that Webb received after publicly identifying as a Native American lesbian, with some individuals voicing their opposition to him during a recent county session.

“Some people have really been upset. You know, they’ve been big mad about it. And, you know, we had a group of individuals show up at our local Delaware County Council meeting to express their fake outrage,” Webb said.

Webb remarked that despite calls for his resignation, his story has struck a chord with people across the country, and he has received messages of support from numerous Americans.

“I’ve been getting a lot of good positive feedback requesting that I seek higher office than as the Delaware County Council,” he said.
