The news that National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir had distributed firearms to Israeli citizens and community security squads throughout the nation has caused serious concern for the Biden Administration.
This is especially concerning in light of reports that the firearms were distributed in regions dominated by religious, right-of-center Jews.
In response, the Biden Administration has threatened to halt an order of a massive supply of firearms by Israel’s National Security Ministry from American suppliers, as well as any other forms of armament support to Israel.
This development could have significant implications for US-Israeli relations and calls into question their alleged support for our ally going forward.
It is essential to recognize that the weapons handed out by Ben-Gvir were not procured from the United States; thus, this matter does not involve taxpayer dollars. Nonetheless, Israel expressed disbelief in response to this action, although they could have expected such a response from Hamas.
From Haaretz:
The U.S. administration told Israel that it would not supply the country with arms if they are used to arm civilians, and if they are to be distributed at political events. The administration also threatened to halt an order of some 20,000 rifles purchased by the National Security Ministry from American suppliers.
The U.S. announcement shocked Israel’s defense establishment. In light of a considerable rifle shortage, resolving the crisis involved both political and judicial officials.
This news follows a statement by a Hamas leader that the Islamist terror group would continue its attacks against Israel until it is destroyed. Since October 7th, these acts of violence have resulted in the deaths of 1,400 Jews and the abduction of 220 people, including at least 30 children.
This evidence confirms that the Democratic Party does not have any genuine allies in Israel, but rather varying degrees of opposition.
