‘I Want To Know What’s Happening In That Room!’: Reporter
Recently, a White House reporter pressed White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre to disclose details about President Joe Biden’s negotiations with Republicans regarding the debt ceiling.
Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy have yet to reach a deal on raising the $31.4 trillion debt ceiling, which is expected to reach default by June 1.
The White House condemns a 320-page House GOP debt ceiling proposal that intends to cut federal spending by approximately $130 billion.
When asked by the reporter if the two sides were only discussing discretionary spending and not the terms under which the debt ceiling would be raised, Jean-Pierre replied with what the President had already said:
“You’ve heard them talk about the budget, you’ve heard them talk about how we’re moving forward and that in this particular moment that we’re in they’ve been productive. The president has held the line and has been very clear that when it comes to the debt limit, it should be done without negotiations, without condition.”
It appears the White House is avoiding confronting the reality that to bring the debt ceiling up, Democrats will need to cut federal spending.
The reporter followed up by questioning if Biden was “living up” to the negotiations when, in actuality, he was just repeating the same talking points. To this, Jean-Pierre answered rejecting the notion of defaulting on the debt ceiling was “off the table.”
Joe Biden claims to be “optimistic” about reaching a deal, but House Speaker McCarthy admits the two sides are struggling to come to terms.
Six Democratic senators have spoken out, urging Biden to raise the debt ceiling without Congress by invoking the 14th Amendment–a controversial move. It appears the White House is keeping Americans in the dark when it comes to the debt ceiling crisis.
They’ve said before they want to be open about their negotiations, but revealed no substantial plans to cut federal spending and get out of this debt crisis. Democrats enjoy spending taxpayer money recklessly, but when it’s time to confront that reality, they hide behind vague responses.
At this point in time, Americans deserve to know how Democrats plan to address the debt ceiling and reduce government spending. Secrecy does no one any favors, especially when we’re talking about trillions of dollars borrowed on the taxpayers’ dime.
It’s time for Democrats to stop hiding…
