Thanks to the petulance of Vladimir Putin and his increasingly bellicose nuclear threats, the world at large has been forced to take a bit of a sideways approach to punishing Russia for their incorrigible invasion of Ukraine.

This has meant large, unwieldy sanctions that bring with them a great deal of collateral damage as well.  You see, in order to keep the Kremlin’s bank account lean, nations around the world will need to stop buying Russian gas, oil, and energy.  Of course, this means that prices for these goods will go up, as the demand remains the same and the supply has been arbitrarily cleaved.

US President Joe Biden is meeting with European leaders in an attempt to keep the world satisfied as Russian energy becomes a commodity non grata.

President Joe Biden and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced a new “task force” on Friday with the sole purpose of reducing the continent’s reliance on Russian energy.

The news comes on the heels of a U.S. ban on all Russian energy imports and past commitments from Europe to phase out consumption of Russian natural gas. Biden additionally pledged to provide Europe with 15 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas in 2022.

“This initiative focuses on two core issues. One, helping Europe reduce its dependency on Russian gas as quickly as possible. Secondly, reducing Europe’s demand for gas overall,” he said during a bilateral meeting with von der Leyen in Brussels, Belgium. “The European Commission will work with member states to store gas across the continent, to build more infrastructure to receive LNG, and to take steps to increase the efficiency of gas.”

Biden even found a way to add some far left talking points to the message.

“We’re going to have to make sure that families in Europe can get through this winter and the next while we’re building the infrastructure for a diversified, resilient, and clean energy future,” he continued. “At the same time, this crisis also presents an opportunity.
