Sen. Ted Cruz said this week that Texans have been stopping him “in shock” after what he described as a blue wave, claiming it flipped Texas and strengthened Democrats in the Senate.
Cruz describes ‘grieving’ Texans
According to The Gateway Pundit’s account, Cruz made the remarks during an appearance on Sean Hannity. In a video posted on his X account on November 6, 2026, Cruz said, “The last two days in Texas, as I’ve traveled the state, I’ve just encountered people who are grieving. They’re in shock.” He added, “They may have been angry, but they did not anticipate this tidal wave nationwide electing radicals to the Senate, giving the Democrats a stranglehold on the Senate and Texas flipping blue.”

Cruz also offered an anecdote: “I went to Best Buy this afternoon. I walked in, and three people there were almost in tears expressing shock. What has happened to our state?”
Kitchen-table costs and a promise to flip Texas back
Cruz argued Republicans must respond to voter frustration over everyday costs, saying, “We need to listen to what the voters said… be working to lower gas prices, lower food prices, lower interest rates — help people succeed and provide for their families.” He pledged, “We are going to turn Texas around. Texas will be red again, and we are going to turn this country around.”
Claims about results and Democrats’ agenda
The Gateway Pundit framed the outcome as a “blue wave” and said Democrats won the U.S. Senate race with James Talarico, the governor’s race, and other state-level offices. Cruz characterized the national map as a “tidal wave” and claimed Democrats now have a “stranglehold on the Senate.”
Cruz warned of energy policies he opposes, asserting that those elected “don’t want gas prices at $4, $5, $6. They want them at $10, $12, $15. They want to ban the gasoline engine.”
