A Gold Star mother, whose son tragically lost his life in the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal of August 2021, has revealed a heartless exchange with President Joe Biden during her visit to the White House in 2022.
Army Staff Sgt. Ryan Christian Knauss was one of 13 U.S. service members killed by a suicide bomber outside Kabul Airport that fateful month.
At an event for Gold Star families hosted at the White House, this parent experienced firsthand the lack of empathy from America’s Commander-in-Chief.
According to a U.K. Daily Mail report Monday, Paula Knauss Selph had a meeting with President Biden at the White House on Memorial Day last year.
She had hoped that he would show sympathy and take responsibility in honoring her son’s memory, but instead she claims the president showed no attempt to comfort her during her grief, reportedly asking if she wanted a photo with him.
Selph characterized this as a “moral disgrace” due to the lack of sympathy or mercy from the commander-in-chief towards families of soldiers lost in battle, particularly when she held him accountable for such tragedies.
It appears to be a recurring pattern for Joe Biden, as since the withdrawal from Afghanistan, he has continually demonstrated indifference towards other Gold Star families.
In 2021, during the ceremony for the transfer of Lance Cpl. Dylan Merola’s remains in Delaware, Biden spoke to Cherry Rex, mother of the deceased.
During their encounter, he compared her loss to his own son’s death due to cancer.
Mrs. Rex later relayed that she was overwhelmed with anger over Biden attempting to use such an occasion for garnering sympathy for himself instead of honoring her family’s loss.
As the current President of the United States, Joe Biden has a responsibility to protect American lives abroad. Unfortunately, he has failed to do so in Afghanistan and has shown indifference towards the families of those who lost their lives there.
The Republicans in Congress could call on these Gold Star families to testify about how the president failed to keep Americans safe and then showed complete indifference toward them and their plight.
Biden failed to do his job and 13 Americans are dead because of it. To let him get away with it would be a travesty.
