On Sunday night, with the Miami Dolphins leading 17-3 against the New England Patriots at halftime, Coach Mike McDaniel made a business decision at halftime. He quickly discussed with NBC’s Melissa Stark the tactics that had given the Dolphins their significant advantage in the first half.
After wrapping up the interview, the sophomore head coach swiftly made his way towards the locker room to speak with his squad. Glancing back to see if the camera could keep up, McDaniel seemed too quick, disappearing rapidly into the tunnel.

During the interview, Stark mentioned that McDaniel managed to advance the ball against Belichick’s defense, seemingly referring to the entire team rather than just the coach.
However, McDaniel interpreted it in a more direct manner.
“I haven’t done anything,” he said. “The players have done a great job of executing some stuff. We need to clean some stuff up. They’re always in the game and we have a whole half to play so can’t let our guard down. Need to make some second-half adjustments and press forward.”
He further commended the defense for their sharp focus on skills and fundamentals, which led to giving up only three points by the half.
Stark expressed her gratitude, and McDaniel turned on the jets to head to the locker room. After all, you can’t put your guard down when you have Coach Bill Belichick on the opposing sideline.
The Dolphins emerged victorious by a final score of 24-17.
