As the midterm elections continue to loom just outside of our peripheral vision, the Democratic Party is hard at work looking to cook up new ways to disparage both the GOP and their presumptive 2024 presidential candidate Donald Trump. They know that, should Trump be allowed to run again not under duress, that the leftists of the nation will be doomed for decades to come.
Over the course of the last month, much of this effort stymie Trump has come in the form of sensational stories about “top secret” materials allegedly recovered from Mar-a-Lago – despite Trump having already declared that the items had been declassified.
But this stunt du jour isn’t the only game in town for the Democrats, it’s merely the newest one, and the return of the January 6th select committee’s headline machine appears inevitable…especially as they begin to hint at some blockbuster potential witnesses.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) on Sunday said he expects former Vice President Mike Pence to testify before the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
“Vice President Pence was the target of Donald Trump’s wrath and fury and effort to overthrow the election on January 6, the whole idea was to get Pence to step outside his constitutional role, and then to declare unilateral lawless powers to reject Electoral College votes from the states,” Raskin, a member of the Jan. 6 committee, said on CBS “Face the Nation.”
Trending:
“I think he has a lot of relevant evidence, and I would hope he would come forward and testify about what happened,” Raskin said.
Raskin seemed to think that Pence would testify on his own volition.
Pressed on options to force Pence to appear before the committee, Raskin said that a subpoena isn’t out of the question for Pence or any other potential witness, “but I would assume he’s going to come forward and testify voluntarily, the way the vast majority of people have.”
While Pence hasn’t made any official announcements as of yet, he’s been doing plenty of hinting about a potential 2024 run, and testifying before the J6 committee would certainly provide him with an opportunity to damage his likely primary opponent in that race.
